Increasing influence internet usage, increasing middle-class population, and raised awareness regarding healthy food among consumers are driving the market growth. The Asia Pacific region accounts for over 36.0 % of global walnut consumption. In 2022, the value of walnuts consumed in the areas was 2.73 billion dollars.
About 22.66 lakh metric tonnes of walnuts are grown in Jammu and Kashmir in an area spanning 1,89,000 hectares every year. More than 98 pert cent of the total walnuts grown in cold desert himalaya come from Jammu and Kashmir. Walnuts found in Jammu and Kashmir are mainly of two types -- English walnut (Juglans regia) and Black walnut (Juglans nigra).
