Abdul Rashid Ghazi of People's league

Front ranking pro-freedom organisation the Jammu and Kashmir People's League leader Abdul Rashid Ghazi who was mysteriously found dead on Thursday in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district may have died due to torture, post mortem has revealed.

Reliable sources said that Rashid was been beaten to death by some unknown persons as his head was bleeding profusely. “It is a clear case of murder, not an accident.”

They said the deceased was returning from Islamabad after attending the condolence meeting of Party Chairman Mukhatar Ahmad Waza’s mother.

According to People’s League members, Rashid didn’t die by accident but has been murdered. “There is no question of accident, we have received postmortem report and it shows death due to torture.”
Rashid was taken to government hospital Baramulla where his postmortem was conducted around 12 pm, sources said.

A senior doctor from Baramulla hospital wishing anonymity said the deceased has died most probably due to torture as there are visible marks all over his body and abrasion on both knees. “The deceased has suffered grave head injury on the posterior side of right central bone in his head which leads to cardio reparatory arrest resulting in on-spot death,” the doctor said.

Chairman, Peoples League, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza said India has adopted unique way to kill innocent Kashmiris from 6-year-old to 70-year-old. “We don’t need state probe into the killing. As there are countless probes ordered which are altered according to their needs. We demand international agencies to conduct a probe into the innocent killing of Abdul Rashid Ghazi,” Waza said.

He said Ghazi was supporting the resistance movement from 1965 and has worked on various facades. “He has been murdered in a well-planned manner to crush the ongoing movement,” Mukhtar added.

A police spokesperson said we are ascertaining the facts into the mysterious death. “We have registered a case under 174 CrPc and investigation is on.”

He said we have shifted body to the hospital where postmortem was conducted. “One mark of injury has been found on the head.”

According to initial investigations, the circumstantial evidences of the spot suggest that it is a hit and run road accidental case. However police has taken the cognizance,” the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, Peoples League General Secretary Muhammad Ashraf Vaid has demanded a judicial probe into the mysterious death of party’s senior leader.

On August 11, 2008, Chairman of Jammu Kashmir People's League, Sheikh Abdul Aziz was killed by army while he was leading a peaceful public demonstration against the “economic blockade” in the infamous Amarnath Shrine agitation which witnessed 68 innocent killings across Valley.

Osama Bin Laden in Kashmir

Kashmiri Hindu militant Manoj Kumar who now are in jail, Kashmir, India

Srinagar, May 5: Asharq Al-Awsat - A Hindu militant commander from Hizbul Mujahideen and another militant were killed in the early hours of  Thursday morning during clashes with Indian security forces in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Kuldeep Sharma, otherwise known as KK or Kamran was killed in the Kulhand area when security forces raided his hideout in Khilandi village after a receiving a tip-off.

Mr. Sharma, an active militant since 1988, has been involved in the killings of several Indian security personnel.

Last August, 26-year-old Uttam Singh, a Hizbul Mujahideen commander was killed in Tharolan, a remote village in Doda. Singh alias Sayfullah became a militant six years prior to his death and was originally a member of the anti-insurgency village defense committee but was eventually pulled into Hizbul Mujahideen.

According to former Jammu and Kashmir police chief, Gopal Sharma, the police have identified several Hindu militants as part of Hizbul Mujahideen.

In 2000, Indian security forces for the first time had killed a Hindu militant called Kuldeep Singh as well as other seven others. His elder brother Randeep Singh is still a commander of Hizbul Mujahideen.

In 2001, Bharat Kumar was arrested in Jammu City in possession of arms and ammunition. He had received military training for four years in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

In November 2004, a Hindu militant from AL-Jehad, Manoj Kumar Manhas was amongst the 47 militants who as reported  arrested by the Indian army. Manoj Kumar, 20, had revealed that he had been introduced to Kashmir freedom movement by his cousin, Baldev Singh, also a Hindu, who is still on the run.

Sr. Police officer stated that Hindus are involved in militancy for money and power, just like Muslim militants. "There is no more jihad and now local youth irrespective of their religious affiliations are turning to guns as it is an easy way to get money and women. Unemployment and poverty especially in remote areas are catalysts for involvement of the Hindu youth in militancy," he said.

Sout-ul- Haq Chief among 3 arrested ‘Rival group hatched plan with militant aid’

Details: http://jkmpic.blogspot.com
Srinagar, April 17: Police Saturday claimed to have solved the murder case of Jamiat Ahlehadith president Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah by arresting three persons including the chief of religio-political organization Sout-ul-Haq. Police also claimed that Jamiat’s rival group had hatched the conspiracy to eliminate Maulana with militant support, reports Asem Mohiuddin in Rissing Kashmir.

Addressing media persons here, IGP Kashmir S M Sahai said after killing of Jamiat president in IED blast on April 8, police had set the investigation into motion.“During the probe, the criminal conspiracy behind the killing was unearthed,” he said.

“Some of the members of Jamiat Ahlehadith had shown displeasure over the working of Moulana. They alongwith members of religio-political organization Sout-ul-Haq attempted to dislodge him from the post through electoral process in 2010. However, they could not achieve their goal through electoral process and took an extreme step to assassinate Maulana and hatched the conspiracy to eliminate him,” he claimed.

Sahai said detained Muslim League chairman, Dr Qasim Faktoo who is serving life time imprisonment, hatched the conspiracy with Abdul Gani Dar alias Abdullah Gazalli, president of Sout-ul-Haq after later visited him in jail and discussed the broad contours of conspiracy.

He claimed that the actual execution of the plan was left to one Javaid Ahmad Munshi alias Bill Papa of Chanapora, Srinagar who sought help from Lashkar Commander Abdullah Uni. “He received some material from Abdullah Uni from Sopore and arranged some of it locally. Various parts of execution were done by various other members. However, the actual triggering of the IED was entrusted to one Nisar Ahmad Khan alias Ishaq of Chanapora,” he said.

“The IED was prepared by Javid Ahmad and he handed over it to Nissar, who planted it near mosque gate and exploded it with remote control when Moulana was entering the mosque on April 8,” IGP claimed.

He said, “The conspirators were also in touch with Jameel-ur-Rehman, general secretary of Muzaffarabad based United Jihad Council. The conspirators saw Moulana’s efforts to establish  Transworld University” in Kashmir as his  compromise with the government. His proximity with certain separatist leaders was also not liked by them”.

“Moulana’s engagement in defusing the sectarian clashes and not allowing his organization to work on the separatist front had also not gone well with these people. Due to his (Moulana’s) efforts to keep Jamiat-e-Ahlehadith away from separatist politics, some members in the organization were not happy with his functioning,” he said.

“Police have arrested Abdullah Gazalli, Bill Papa and Nisar, who are prime accused in executing the murder. Further arrests are expected in connection of the killing as the investigations are on,” IGP added.

JKPL URGES UN, INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE

Srinagar, Oct 16: The Chairman of  Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Leauge (JKPL) Sheikh Yaqoob on Thursday urged the International Court of Justice and United Nations War Crimes Tribunal to initiate a probe into the unmarked and mass graves in the disputed state of Kashmir.

Sheikh Yaqoob   said during the past over two decades nearly 10,000 Kashmiris went missing in the custody of various agencies. “Unmarked and mass graves have been found in various areas of the Valley. We believe that most of the Kashmiris who have been subjected to enforced disappearance are buried in these unmarked and mass graves. We make a fervent appeal to the International Court of Justice and United Nations War Crimes Tribunal to send their teams to the Valley and initiate a through probe into the unmarked graves for unmasking the perpetrators and putting an end to killing of innocent Kashmiris,” Sheikh Yaqoob said.

Citing example of extra-judicial executions, Sheikh Yaqoob said in 2006, five people mostly from south Kashmir’s Islamabad district were killed in a fake encounter in Ganderbal for rewards and promotions by the Special Operations Group of Police and Army.

“The case is only tip-of an ice-berg. In past two decades, the troopers turned Kashmir into killings fields by executing Kashmiris and burying their bodies in unmarked graves to suppress the movement for right to self-determination,” Sheikh Yaqoob  said.

Pertinently, last year the International Peoples’ Tribunal on Human Rights and Justice, a rights watchdog in its report ‘Buried Evidence: Unknown, Unmarked, and Mass Graves” had claimed to have to found 2700 unmarked and mass graves containing bodies of 2943 people across, 55 villages in north Kashmir.

“The graves include bodies of extra-judicial, summary and arbitrary executions, as well as massacres by the Indian military and paramilitary forces. Of these graves 2373 (87.9 percent) were unnamed. 154 contained two bodies each and 23 contained more than two bodies. Within these 23 graves, the number of bodies ranged from 3 to 17,” the report had stated.

Sheikh Yaqoob  maintained that panacea for all the problems of Kashmiris’ is demilitarization. “Till the troopers leave the State, Kashmiris will continue suffer, fathers will have to face the painful moment of shouldering coffins of their sons and playfields will turn into graveyards.”

Accusing India of exploiting natural resources of Kashmiris, Sheikh Yaqoob  said the power generated from Kashmir is supplied to other states. “While Kashmiris are left in lurch. Our forests and mountains are also being vandalized by troopers. I want to maintain that Kashmiris will feel sense of security when the troopers vacate the State,” he said. (Writer-South Asia)
