Bilal Kakpori-Bilal Ahmed Lone-Kakpora Pampore

Bilal Kakpori was Made Target of Prolonged Detentions, Torture: Speakers say in MDM Conference

Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM) Friday organised a conference in memory of late Bilal Kakpori. Bilal died a few days ago after he was released from detention from Pulwama Police station.
The conference titled “Services of Bilal to Resistance and Our Responsibilities” was held in home town of Bilal at Kakpora Pulwama.

Members of different religious and political parties besides a large number of people participated in the programme, a MDM statement said this evening.

Highlighting the services of Bilal, the statement quoting speakers said, “he always remained steadfast against the occupational forces. Therefore, he was made a target of prolonged detentions and torture. The sustained torture has affected his speech to a great extent. But this didn’t stop him from being a forceful advocate of the Kashmir resistance movement and because of his pious character he was a silent missionary for the resistance movement. He always proved to be brave and steadfast in face of the tests he was put to by the occupational regime and forces.”
Speakers emphasised, “we should carry forward the mission of the martyrs.”

The programme was telephonically addressed by Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani and representatives from Muslim League, Democratic freedom party, Freedom league, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Kashmir Freedom Front attended the function.

The programme was presided over by MDM general secretary Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, the statement added.

Credit for cross-LoC pact goes to Sheikh Abdul AZIZ

Sheikh Aziz
“The people of Kashmir have sacrificed their lives in the past. The credit for the agreement reached over the cross LoC trade goes to them especially those who were martyred during the past three months, including Sheikh Abdul Aziz Sahab,” said PDP president Mehbooba Mufti. Mehbooba referred to those killed during protests as martyrs.

She was addressing a press conference at her Gupkar residence  on Saturday.

More than 40 people were killed in firing by police and CRPF troopers during the pro-freedom rallies and attempted march to Muzaffarabad on August 11.
Mehbooba Mufti said people of Kashmir have heard good news (agreement over cross LoC trade between India and Pakistan) from the government after many years.

“The news should be celebrated by all. Many people were martyred during the recent economic blockade enforced by some extremist groups in Jammu,” Mehbooba said.

Kashmiris are the lost tribe of Hebrews

Osho on Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah
Osho - Pahalgam is one of the most beautiful places in the world. That is where Jesus died, and he died at the age of one hundred and twelve. But he got so fed up with his own people that he simply spread the story that he had died on the cross.

Of course he was crucified -- but you have to understand that the Jewish way of crucifixion was not the American way. It was not sitting in a chair, and with just a push of a button you were no more; not even time to say, "God forgive these people who are pushing the button, they don't know what they are doing." They know what they are doing! They are pushing the button! And you don't know what they are doing!

Jesus would not have had any time if he had been crucified in the scientific way. No, it is a very crude way that the Jews followed. Naturally, it sometimes even took twenty-four hours or more to die. There have been cases of people having survived for three days on the cross, the Jewish cross I mean, because they simply nailed the man by his hands and his feet.

The blood has the capacity to clot; it flows for a while, then it clots. The man is, of course, in immense pain, in fact he prays to God, "Please let it be finished." Perhaps that is what Jesus was saying when he said, "They don't know what they are doing. Why have you forsaken me?" But the pain must have been too much, for he finally said, "Let thy will be done."

I don't think that he died on the cross. No, I should not say that "I don't think..." I know that he didn't die on the cross. He had said, "Let thy will be done"; that's his freedom. He could say anything he wanted to say. In fact, the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, had fallen in love with the man. Who would not? It is irresistible if you have eyes.

But Jesus' own people were busy counting money; they had no time to look into the eyes of this man who had no money at all. Pontius Pilate for one moment had even thought to release Jesus. It was in his power to order his release, but he was afraid of the crowd. Pilate said, "It is better that I should keep out of their business. He is a Jew, they are Jews -- let them decide for themselves. But if they cannot decide in his favor then I will find a way."

And he found a way, politicians always do. Their ways are always roundabout; they never go directly. If they want to go to A, they first go to B; that's how politics works. And it really works. Only once in a while it does not work. I mean, only when there is a non-political man, then it does not work. In Jesus' case also, Pontius Pilate managed perfectly well without getting involved.

Jesus was crucified on the afternoon of Friday, hence "Good Friday." Strange world! Such a good man is crucified, and you call it "Good Friday." But there was a reason, because Jews have... I think Devageet, you can help me again -- not with a sneeze, of course! Is Saturday their religious day?
"Yes, Osho."

Right... because on Saturday nothing is done. Saturday is a holiday for the Jews; all action has to be stopped. That's why the Friday was chosen... and late afternoon, so by the time the sun sets the body has to be brought down, because to keep it hanging on Saturday would be "action." That's how politics functions, not religion. During that night, a rich follower of Jesus removed the body from the cave. Of course, then comes Sunday, a holiday for everybody. By the time Monday comes, Jesus is very far away.

Israel is a small country; you can cross it on foot in twenty-four hours very easily. Jesus escaped, and there was no better place than the Himalayas. Pahalgam is just a small village, just a few cottages. He must have chosen it for its beauty. Jesus chose a place which I would have loved myself.

I tried continuously for twenty years to get into Kashmir. But Kashmir has a strange law: only Kashmiris can live there, not even other Indians. That is strange. But I know ninety percent of Kashmiris are Mohammedan and they are afraid that once Indians are allowed to live there, then Hindus would soon become the majority, because it is part of India. So now it is a game of votes just to prevent the Hindus.

I am not a Hindu, but bureaucrats everywhere are delinquents. They really need to be in mental hospitals. They would not allow me to live there. I even met the chief minister of Kashmir, who was known before as the prime minister of Kashmir.

It was such a great struggle to bring him down from prime ministership to chief ministership. And naturally, in one country how could there be two prime ministers? But he was a very reluctant man, this Sheikh Abdullah. He had to be imprisoned for years. Meanwhile the whole constitution of Kashmir was changed, but that strange clause remained in it. Perhaps all the committee members were Mohammedans and none of them wanted anybody else to enter Kashmir.
I tried hard, but there was no way. You cannot enter into the thick skulls of politicians.

I said to the sheikh, "Are you mad? I am not a Hindu; you need not be afraid of me. And my people come from all over the world -- they will not influence your politics in any way, for or against."

He said, "One has to be cautious."
I said, "Okay, be cautious and lose me and my people."
Poor Kashmir could have gained so much, but politicians are born deaf. He listened, or at least pretended to, but he did not hear.

I said to him, "You know that I have known you for many years, and I love Kashmir."
He said, "I know you, that's why I am even more afraid. You are not a politician, you belong to a totally different category. We always distrust such people as you." He used this word, distrust -- and I was talking to you about trust.

At this moment I cannot forget Masto. It was he who introduced me to Sheikh Abdullah, a very long time before. Later on, when I wanted to enter Kashmir, particularly Pahalgam, I reminded the sheikh of this introduction.

The sheikh said, "I remember that this man was also dangerous, and you are even more so. In fact it is because you were introduced to me by Masta Baba that I cannot allow you to become a permanent resident in this valley."

Masto introduced me to many people. He thought perhaps I might need them; and I certainly did need them -- not for myself but for my work. But except for very few people, the majority turned out to be very cowardly. They all said, "We know you are enlightened...."

I said, "Stop, then and there. That word, from your mouth, immediately becomes unenlightened. Either you do what I say, or simply say no, but don't talk any nonsense to me."

They were very polite. They remembered Masta Baba, and a few of them even remembered Pagal Baba, but they were not ready to do anything at all for me. I am talking about the majority. Yes, a few were helpful, perhaps one percent of the hundreds of people that Masto introduced me to. Poor Masto -- his desire was that I should never be in any difficulty or need, and that I could always depend on the people he had introduced me to.

I said to him, "Masto, you are trying your best, and I am even doing better than that by keeping quiet when you introduce me to these fools. If you were not there I would have caused real trouble. That man for instance, would never have forgotten me. I control myself just because of you, although I don't believe in control, but I do it just for your sake."
Masto laughed and said, "I know. When I look at you as I am introducing you to a bigwig, I laugh inside myself thinking, `My God, how much effort you must be making not to hit that idiot.'"

Sheikh Abdullah took so much effort, and yet he said to me, "I would have even allowed you to live in Kashmir if you had not been introduced to me by Masta Baba."

I asked the sheikh, "Why?... when you appeared to be such an admirer."
He said, "We are no one's admirer, we admire only ourselves, but because he had a following -- particularly among rich people in Kashmir -- I had to admire him. I used to receive him at the airport, and give him a send-off, put all my work aside and just run after him. But that man was dangerous. And if he introduced you to me, then you cannot live in Kashmir, at least while I am in power. Yes, you can come and go, but only as a visitor."

It is good that Jesus entered Kashmir before Sheikh Abdullah. He did well by coming two thousand years before. He must have been really afraid of Sheikh Abdullah. Jesus' grave is still there, preserved by the descendants of those who had followed him from Israel. Of course men like me cannot go alone, you can understand. A few people must have followed him there. Even though he went far away from Israel, they must have gone with him.

In fact the Kashmiris are the lost tribe of Hebrews of which the Jews and Christians both talk so much. The Kashmiris are not Hindu, nor of Indian origin. They are Jewish. You can see by looking at Indira Gandhi's nose; she is a Kashmiri.

She is imposing emergency rule in India -- not in name but in fact. Hundreds of political leaders are behind bars. I had been telling her from the very beginning that those people should not be in parliament or assemblies or in the legislature.
There are many kinds of idiots, but politicians are the worst, because they also have power. Journalists are number two. In fact they are even worse than politicians, but because they have no power, they can only write, and who cares what they write? Without power in your hands then you may have as much idiocy as possible, it cannot do anything.

Kashmiri Prisoner in Kolkata's Guantanamo Bay

State Brutality knows no Frontiers: Kashmiri Prisoner in Kolkata's Guantanamo Bay

Amit Bhattacharyya
Secretary General, Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners(CRPP)
(On 31 October 2010, the Hindustan Times, Kolkata edition published a front-page report captioned "Kolkata's Guantanamo Bay" where it was reported that on October 15,when the entire city was celebrating Saptami during the Pujas, Sheikh Farhat Mehmood, a 29-year-old Kashmiri under-trial prisoner lodged in Presidency Jail, Kolkata, West Bengal, was stripped, tortured and kept naked throughout the night in his cell: Mehboob's offence: he protested against the quality of food and demanded his basic rights according to jail rule. Following the 'punishment', Farhat observed a two-day hunger-strike in the jail. The matter was hushed up by the Presidency jail authorities. The picture of the prisoner in a naked state was published in the paper. On the next day-1 November-the Bandi Mukti Committee(Committee for the Release of Prisoners, a human rights forum  based in West Bengal) organized a demonstration against it and took out a procession comprising about 100 people and went to the Presidency Jail gate and demonstrated. They were denied permission to meet Farhat. On 2 November 2010, the HindustanTimes, Kolkata edition came out with another report which I am sending to you all for conveying the message that state brutality knows no frontiers and that there are many Guantanamo Bays in 'the land of the largest democracy of the world' also. Such acts of brutality, sadistic torture, deserve universal condemnation and should not go unpunished.)
The said report is as follows:

"Protests over Jail Stripping" ht Impact
Kolkata: The jail department initiated a probe on Monday, even as it denied any incident of stripping of a prisoner inside Presidency Jail. On Sunday, Hindustan Times reported a case of stripping of Sheikh Farhat Megmood, a 29-year-old under-trial from Srinagar, inside his solitary cell on the night of October 15.

The situation has taken a curious turn, with the Srinagar Bar association calling a press conference at the Sadar Court at Lalchowk, Srinagar, on Tuesday to condemn the incident.

"Such incidents should be condemned and the guilty must immediately be punished. We've called a press conference to highlight the issue", said Ajaj Dadar, vice-president of the association.

"We've initiated a probe. There's been no torture or stripping. It may be that, somehow, the inmate took his own pictures on a cell phone and sent it out", said BD Sharma, ADG(Prisons) at Writers Buildings.

However, Sharma could not clarify several pertinent points. Even if his point is accepted, why would Mehboob strip himself? How could he take his own photograph when he was trying to cover himself with both hands? How could someone enter the cell of a high security prisoner with a cell phone and take his naked picture?

On the question of a cell phone being sneaked into the solitary cell, Sharma said, "We're looking into it. We have to look after so many thousand inmates and have just a handful of staff". He, however, said the department would write to the government to spped up Farhat's trial.

On Monday, human rights organization Bandi Mukti Committee demonstrated outside Presidency Jail demanding that the jail authorities stop treating inmates brutally. The organization took out a rally to protest against the incident. About 100 activists marched to Presidency Jail and demonstrated against the atrocities.

Chhoton Das, secretary of the committee, said, "We've submitted a deputation to the jail superintendent. We wanted to meet the inmate, but were not allowed. Our main demand is punishment of the person guilty of torturing Mehmood".

A tribute to Martyar Mushtaq Ahmad Lone by Ed. Sheikh Gulzaar

Mushtaq Ahmad Lone
Obviously we all have some day to leave forever, though one today and the another tomorow. The conception is natural and final.

Long ago, in the same way, a beautiful star was born which with the intensity twinkled, fascinated and got shrouded in the ultima thule of the horizons. Na, Na, the story is not in any way all about a billion year old burnt star of some globular cluster, the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) discovered. The star here is our beloved Mushtaq Ahmad Lone who only a year back reached the destination. Whenever the regional history would be rewind, Mushtaq's precious and constructive contribution is certain to remember. And one desiring the unity of the Muslims can find Mushtaq in the pages of history always dreamt in his life of only day to come  when the Muslims would not have slit one another's throat but to exchange their true love. When the brothers have one another's tears to wipe off. Safety of the Muslims, prosperity of the Muslims and the understanding  among the Muslim Nations was  the dream Mushtaq Ahmad Lone wished come true. Whether Sarajevo, Central Asia, Kashmir, palestine, Afghanistan, Libya or Mogadishu the cosmopolitan used to say are the issues of the Muslim world and the body is to feel pain of its severely bruised organs.

Contrary to sweet dreams of his parents the son Mushtaq placed  all worldly advantages aside and  joined  a Holy mission to serve the Muslim cause with the  unique power of his pen. So, besides working for many dailies, Wahdat-e-Milli, an  Urdu Weekly presenting news and views was finally launched. Every  Edition of the News & views. Weekly was fund showering to the bruised healing touch. Rightly  some  one said the sincerer heart has to bleed more. Same  was the case  with the Wahdat-e-Milli Editor. Inspite of the  criticismfrom many  quarters, even the so called intellectual, and  weak financial position  Mushtaq said. was never up his mission  of his life. The Wahdat-e-Milli  turned  from offset to the litho, yet kept pace  with the cruel time. "Off course not money  but my paper gives me  what is not  in everyone's fate. I am blessed by it with the satisfaction. The satisfaction that is very hard to get in one's life ", Mushtaq often said.

The garden of a series of hopes was total shattered when the blossom was mercilessly taken away. Mushtaq Ahmad Lone ws  martyred and the story of a hot burnt star reached to an end. The star would blub the tears of blood if revealed to him all that followed the end of his missionary life of the Wahdat doctrine. Merchants  of the nation and self-styled patrons of the religion detonated  a violent bomb. They campaigned with their dirty ideas against the Martyr' burial in a shrine's vicinity inn the ancestral village of Pathan. In this age of ultra modern civilization they said the imperfect burial according to them was  responsible for a chain of natural deaths of the old people. One  is ashamed when learns about this dirty joke of the century and fears what would happen if the opportunistic westerners would also learn. Let ask this sense less Saint that by acquiring whose calibre he said so?  Does he mean to say  the Muslims vote for the regionalisim? Or if he has an another theory of the earth being under different controls? Mr. Saint, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone never told to make his tomb on the surface and does not need. Because our hearts for the same were occupied at the earliest when Mushtaq Ahmad Lone selected his fore head for:-

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League pays glowing homage to S. HAMID WANI

Srinagar, April 21 : The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League, a constituent of All Parties Hurriyat Conference summons an important meeting at its party headquarters Rajbagh Srinagar in which Peoples League pays glowing tributes to Shaheed-e-Inkilaab (Martyr of Revolution) S. Hamid Wani: attended by Senior Peoples League Leaders, which include, Mohammad Ashraf Sofi, Mohammad Maqbool Sofi, Ghulam Qadir Rah, Imtiyaz Reshi, Gh. Nabi Waseem, Nazir Ahmad Khan, Gh Ahmad Mir and dozens of PL Activists. In the meeting rich tributes were paid to the martyr who is ascribed to be amongst the frontline Pro-freedom leaders of 70’s and was one of the founders of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) - which represents the aspiration of Kashmiris politically, diplomatically and socially.

While speaking in the colloquium Senior Hurriyat Leader and Acting Chairman Jammu Kashmir Peoples League, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza said that the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs had centre-staged the Kashmir dispute at the international level. He reiterated the pledge to continue the liberation struggle, despite all odds.

Mr. Waza urges India to show seriousness in resolving the Kashmir dispute issue and added that Kashmir dispute was not a border dispute between India and Pakistan but a question of the future of Kashmiri people. He reiterated that without the inclusion of Kashmiris’ genuine leadership, the dialogue process between Pakistan and India would remain meaningless, as the people of Kashmir were the main party in the dispute. Waza said that the easiest solution available to resolve the 63-year-old dispute was implementation of the resolutions passed by the United Nations. “As long as the Kashmir dispute is not resolved, neither would political uncertainty end in the South Asia nor can the people of the region realize the dream of prosperity and development,” he maintained.

It is worth to mention that S Hamid Wani was arrested by the Indian police and killed in custody on April 18, 1998 in Soura Srinagar; Peoples League said that the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs would not be allowed to go waste and their mission would be taken to its logical conclusion.

APHC Constituent Excluded for Meeting Interlocutors

Srinagar | Apr 20, 2011: Separatist Kashmiri group Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq today suspended its constituent Itehad-ul-Muslimeen (IuM) after the chief patron of the party Maulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari met the Centre's interlocutors on Kashmir here.

"We have suspended IuM for violating the Hurriyat decision on the issue of meeting the interlocutors appointed by Government of India," Mirwaiz told PTI.

Ansari, a former chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, met the interlocutors panel headed by veteran journalist Dileep Padgaonkar today.

The IuM is among the founder constituents of Hurriyat Conference and one of the seven parties which have representative in the highest decision-making body, the Executive Committee.

Mirwaiz said the suspension will remain in force till the next meeting of the executive body of the amalgam which is likely to take place sometime next week.

"Although IuM is represented by Ansari's son, Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari in the Hurriyat meetings, the party is a member of the amalgam and should have abided by the Hurriyat decision," he said.

Ansari was the chairman of the Hurriyat Conference when  leader  Ali Shah Geelani had engineered a split in the amalgam for the failure of the leadership to run an effective boycott campaign in the 2002 Assembly elections.

UN HR team to visit Kashmir on Jan 19

Details: http://jkmpic.blogspot.com
Srinagar, January 15 : The United Nations rapporteur on human rights, Margaret Sekaggya will visit Srinagar on January 19 to assess the condition of human rights defenders in occupied Kashmir.

Sekaggya would file a report to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The report is likely to be submitted in March, a UN official said.

Sekaggya, the special rapporteur on human rights defenders, appointed by the Geneva-based Human Rights Council, has arrived in India on January 11.

Meanwhile, pro-freedom leaders have strongly rejected the statement of Indian Home Secretary, Gopal K Pillai, regarding 25 percent troops’ cut and demanded complete withdrawal of Indian troops from the territory.

Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Sheikh Yaqoob, in a statement issued from Muzaffarabad, termed Pillai’s statement as a bid to hoodwink the world community and reiterated his demand of complete withdrawal of troopers from occupied Kashmir, which was vital to create conducive environment for talks to settle the Kashmir dispute. “These so-called troop cuts are not going to improve the ground situation,” he added.

He said that the occupation forces were perpetrating gross human rights violations in the Kashmir Valley. “The troopers are occupying 2,800,000 kanals of land, wiping out forests and unleashing a reign of terror on the local population in the territory,” Sheikh Yaqoob  maintained.

Senior APHC leader, Shabir Ahmad, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said, "We have heard similar announcements in the past but the situation on the ground remained unchanged.”

Al-fatha leader, Tariq Kashmiri asked India to withdraw its troops and stop gross rights abuses in the Valley. The Chief of 11th August Foundation  in occupied Kashmir, Sheikh Issa, in a statement, said that his party wanted complete withdrawal of troops and rejected Indian Union Home Secretary’s statement.(Writer-South Asia)

Don’t push Kashmiris to violence again : ‘UN Has Failed In Kashmir, Appointment Of Interlocutors Futile’

Srinagar, Jan 5: The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Tuesday warned that Kashmiris will be again forced to take to violence if India continues with its “oppressive” policies to suppress the ongoing movement for right to self-determination and delays resolution of the Kashmir dispute, reports Greater Kashmir

Mirwaiz proposed a resolution at the seminar in which he castigated the United Nations for failing to implement its resolutions on Kashmir and declared Kashmiris as ‘masters of their destiny’ maintaining they will on their own decide the future of Kashmir. The resolution was unanimously adopted.

Addressing a seminar ‘UN resolutions—the legal foundation of disputed nature of Kashmir’ at Hurriyat office Rajbagh here, Mirwaiz said the delay in implementation of the resolutions was taking a heavy toll on the Kashmiris.

On January 5, 1948, the UN had passed a resolution noting that both India and Pakistan had accepted that the question of accession of the state of Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan will be decided through the democratic method of free and impartial plebiscite.

“By virtue of UN resolutions, the Kashmir dispute has achieved international dimensions. The resolutions have made the case of Kashmiris strong. Ironically, the UN which projects itself as a credible institution has failed to implement its own resolutions. The UN as a failed institution should be disbanded,” Mirwaiz said.

Mirwaiz however maintained that whether India or Pakistan will accept or disapprove the UN resolutions, Kashmiris will remain committed to achieve the right to self-determination. “We won’t let the sacrifices rendered by Kashmir in past over six decades go waste. On the eve of January 5, when the UN passed the resolutions, we unanimously pass a resolution that Kashmiris are masters of their destiny who will on their own decide the future of Kashmir,” he said.

Terming the appointment of interlocutors and formation of working groups as a futile exercise, Mirwaiz said the writing on the wall is clear for India. “If India tries to suppress Kashmiris movement for right to self-determination, they will be forced to again take to violent recourse to achieve their goal. I want to maintain that there is no rule of law or accountability in Kashmir. The troopers and police are killing innocent at their will and whim. Kashmir has been turned into a military and police state. Ironically, the international community including the UN Human Rights Commission has maintained a criminal silence over the killing spree in the Valley.” he said.

Mirwaiz underscored the need for building consensus between pro-freedom parties to jointly take the movement to its logical conclusion.

Stating that India and Pakistan can’t thrust solution to the dispute, Mirwaiz said the conglomerate had been supporting the dialogue process but it failed to make any headway. “Despite being a primary party to the dispute Kashmiris have been kept away from the dialogue process. As a result the process has not yielded any result. Need of the hour is to streamline the dialogue process and make it time-bound on the pattern of dispute in middle-east and other countries,” he said.

Defending the conglomerate’s support to former Pakistani President General Pervez Musharaf’s  four-point formula on Kashmir, Mirwaiz said it was an internal arrangement and not a permanent solution. “Even Musharaf has maintained that the formula was a temporary arrangement for 5-6 years and ultimately the people of Kashmir had to themselves resolve it. We also believe that before the final settlement of the dispute, confidence building measures have to be taken,” he said.

However in the same breath, Mirwaiz accused India of taking Confidence Building Measures to hoodwink the international community. “The cross-LOC trade has been a glaring example of India’s non-seriousness. The CBM which was aimed at restoring trade links between Kashmirs, has turned out to be a mere public relation exercise. In absence of banking, communication and facilities how is the cross-LoC trade possible? India is trying to control everything in Kashmir, from governance to bus service from New Delhi,” he said.

Mirwaiz minced no words in accusing India of hatching a conspiracy to defame the ongoing movement. “Kashmiris have rendered over one lakh sacrifices for the indigenous movement. But India is leaving no stone unturned to defame our sacred movement by saying it is aided and funded. There are more Indian troopers in Kashmir than their NATO counterparts in Afghanistan. Still the alienation of Kashmiris has taken the shape of hatred.”

He said in the survey conducted by Times of India and Jang Group under their Aaman Ki Aasha campaign 70 percent of people of India and Pakistan have maintained that the two countries can’t improve their relations without resolving Kashmir.
“It is high time for India to come out of its denial mode and accept the ground reality in Kashmir,” he said.

‘Paradise lost’
The senior leader of Hurriyat (M), Prof Abdul Ghani Bhat, in his typical style termed Kashmir as a paradise which has been turned into a hell.

“India became free on August 14, 1947 but it draped the paradise in its autocratic rule. Till August 15 and 16 Maharaja (Hari Singh) had not taken any decision to decide the future of Kashmir. He was neither with India or Pakistan but wanted to maintain status-quo. On October 26, Maharaja acceded to India and its troopers landed in Kashmir,” he said.

Referring to VP Menon, a senior official of India instrumental in accession of Kashmir, Prof Bhat said in his book ‘Freedom at Midnight’ he had written that “the bastard (Maharaja) has done it. We have it (Kashmir) and we will not let it go.” “This exposes the motives of India. The matter was taken by India to UN, which facilitated truce and passed resolutions giving right to self-determination to Kashmiris,” he said.

Prof Bhat said aim of the seminar is that Kashmiris are prime party to the dispute. “The UN resolution provided legal foundation to the dispute. But Kashmiris were never given the right to self-determination despite wars between India and Pakistan. We want to maintain that Kashmiris are the rulers of Kashmir and they will decide its future,” he said.

‘SHOW SERIOUSNESS’
The senior leader of Hurriyat (M) and chairman of National Front, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, underscored the need of showing seriousness as a nation to achieve right to self-determination.

“India has been trying to suppress the aspirations of Kashmiris by guns. Our movement has transcended from 20th to 21st century. Despite formation of graveyards across the Valley, Kashmiris are fighting with great resolve. The so-called democracy India is doing every undemocratic thing to quell the voice of Kashmiris,” Khan said.

Khan said many teenagers and youth in Pattan, Sopur and Varmul have lost their eye-sight after being hit by pellets by the CRPF during the summer unrest. “This is just a glimpse of so-called democracy. Kashmiris are being selectively killed. When eight people were killed in Humhama no action was taken against the accused cops and troopers, while following the killing of a youth in Mendhar Poonch the DGP and IGP rushed to the spot and suspended the accused cops including SHO,” he said.
Khan maintained that Kashmiris are the prime party to the dispute by virtue of their sacrifices. “Need of the hour is to show seriousness as a nation to achieve our goal. We need to accommodate every voice whether they are for independent Kashmir or merger with Pakistan,” Khan added.

‘FORM PARALLEL BODY’
Hurriyat leader Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam read the paper of Patron Mahaz-e-Azadi, M Azam Inquilabi, who could not make it to the seminar due to illness.

Before the speech, Shahid said he was feeling privileged to read Azam’s paper as he was his teacher when he started his political career in 1984.

In his paper, Azam castigated the UN for failing to implement its resolutions on Kashmir. “We have every right to grumble against the inaction, passivity and in fact dereliction of this world body in reference to its resolutions. Delhi did everything possible to obfuscate the Kashmir issue notwithstanding the promise and pledge of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to facilitate free and fair referendum in Kashmir to decide its political future,” Azam stated.

He said some pacifist and altruistic global leaders were thinking to launch a parallel world body to thwart the trend of UN collapse. “It will become indispensably paramount proposition for futuristic global politics to address all the longstanding disputes like Kashmir, Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq,” he said.

‘LANDING OF TROOPS ILLEGAL’
Noted columnist Dr Javid Iqbal threw light on the controversies and legality of instrument of accession. “Some writers say that VP Menon who had to get the instrument of accession signed by Maharaja, did not reach Jammu on October 26. By virtue of this argument even if the instrument of accession was signed later, the landing of Indian troopers in Kashmir was totally illegal,” Iqbal said.

He said India manipulated the accession of some Muslim dominated areas of Gurdaspur to facilitate construction of a corridor to Kashmir. “The UN resolutions demanded demilitarization of the State to which India did not agree. At some places Pakistan also showed reluctance,” he said.

He termed the appointment of interlocutors as a futile process saying they can only recommended not take decisions. “When everything is clear and majority of people in Kashmir want right to self-determination, the job of interlocutors becomes redundant,” he said.

Indian troops subject processions to force in Srinagar India trampling Kashmiris’ political, religious rights

Srinagar, December 15: In disputed state of  Jammu and Kashmir, scores of mourners were injured, some of them critically, when Indian troops used brute force on Muharram processions in Srinagar, today.

The local authorities under the instructions of India , had imposed curfew and restrictions in the city to that the Muharram processions. Defying curfew, people took out processions in Jehangir Chowk, Regal Chowk and Habba Kadal areas. However, Indian troops and police personnel swung into action and resorted to heavy baton charge and excessive teargas shelling injuring dozens of people.

The All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Rais Ahamad, Sheikh Gulzaar, Nasir Khan, Mushtaq ahmad Lone, Hilal Ahmad War, Yaseen Malik, Javid ahmad Mir, and Nayeem Ahmed Khan in their separate statements strongly denounced the use of force against the mourners. They said that the international community should take cognisance of the fact that the Kashmiri people were not being allowed to perform their religious obligations.

Senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) and President of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi has strongly condemned the imposition of curfew and other restrictions in Srinagar by the occupation authorities to prevent Muharram processions.

Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, while addressing the Muharram processions in Budgam and Magam, said that India, on one side, was claiming to be the largest democracy of the world, while, on the other, was massively violating human rights in the  territory.

He said that the occupation authorities besides committing the worst kind of state terrorism were trampling the religious rights of the people in the occupied territory and imposition of restrictions on Muharram processions was its ample proof.

The APHC leader said that through such tactics India could not suppress the voice of Kashmiri people struggling for securing their right to self-determination. He reiterated the Kashmiris’ resolve to continue the Kashmiris’ just struggle till its compete success.

He said that on Muharram 10, the Ashur procession would be brought out from Abiguzar in Srinagar at all costs.

Syed Ali Shah Gilani's nexus between Hurriyat and Lashkar's Abu Furqaan

S. Asif/Mohammad Shafi
Srinagar, Nov 27: The Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, SM Sahai, today said that 60 odd Government employees were arrested among the total 135 identified who took part in the recent protests.

“Some seven employees were detained under PSA,” Sahai said. He said that police had sent recommendations about them to their respective departments. “We hope that disciplinary action will be taken against them," Sahai said while addressing a press conference at Police Control Room here.

He said timber smugglers and criminals had also taken advantage of the recent unrest as police was focused on maintaining the law and order. He said the six months of unrest were not spontaneous but were masterminded by Lashker-e-Toiba militant outfit.

“The investigations reveal that agitation was increasingly a thoughtful plan carried out by Lashkar,” Sahai said. “We have exposed a module in Batamaloo area involved in the incidents of lobbying grenades. Its members were also notorious stone throwers.”

The IG said 18 grenades were recovered from the possession of four youth. During the course of investigation, he said the detained youth revealed that the module was formed by one Sajad Ahmad alias Shamas, a Lashker militant located in Thanamandi area of Rajouri district.

Similarly, he said there is nexus between Hurriyat and Lashkar. “Recently we arrested Tehsil saddar of  Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Rohama, Ghulam Muhammad Tantray of  Syed Ali Shah Gilanai  who is a resident of Behrampora Rafiabad,” IG said. “His telephonic conversation with Lashkar commander Abu Furqaan reveals that he was linked to the outfit. Both of them stayed together for a day and mooted plans to increase and organize the agitation. So it shows how there are links between militants and separatists.” Furqaan was also involved in killing of top Sr. leader  Sheikh Aziz.

Sahai said as the stone pelting has receded, the militant activity has increased. “They want to keep the cycle going,” he said.

Sahai said Pakistani establishment has still kept intact militant training infrastructure on their soil. Sahai said that revelations made by detained Lashkar militant Saleem Rehmani indicate the role of Pakistani agencies in aiding militancy in the Valley.

Rehmani alias Abu Saad, police said, was arrested recently by police from Panzan area in Budgam district.

Kashmiri leaders plan visit to China, IRAN

Srinagar, Nov 21: Encouraged by China and Iran’s recent stand on Kashmir, both factions of Hurriyat Conference are planning to visit the two countries to mobilize their ‘permanent’ diplomatic support towards resolution of the Kashmir issue.

As part of the process, the chairmen of the two factions will meet the envoys of the two countries during their scheduled visits to New Delhi in coming days.

“A visit to Iran and China will not only strengthen our movement on diplomatic front but will help us to garner more international support for resolution of Kashmir issue. Like Pakistan, we have to garner support from these countries to pressurise India to resolve the Kashmir issue amicably and according to UN resolutions,” Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani told Rising Kashmir.

He said during his planned visit to New Delhi he would be meeting the envoys of China and Iran. “I would meet the ambassadors of the two countries to formulate a proper mechanism for a formal visit,” Geelani said adding, “A permanent support for the implementation of UN resolutions will strengthen our long-pending demand for Right to Self Determination to allow Kashmiris to determine their fate”.

He, however, said any visit to these countries will be subject to the issuance of travel documents by the Indian authorities.

The Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also said that his conglomerate is working on diplomatic front for such a visit. “International support for Kashmir is must and we will surely visit these countries whenever such an opportunity comes. We are working on such things and as a first step we would be meeting the envoys of China and Iran during my scheduled visit to Indian capital in the coming weeks,” Mirwaiz said.

He said China’s stand on Kashmir has always been encouraging and the recent statement by Iranian spiritual leader on Kashmir is a beginning of support building process on international level for resolution of Kashmir issue. “To garner the support permanently, visits to these countries is necessary and must,” he said.

The Hurriyat (M) chairman said the senior conglomerate leader Aga Syed Hassan has been frequently visiting Iran, apprising its leaders about the Kashmir situation and its implications on the peace and stability of the region.

He said he has a standing invitation from a Chinese NGO and plans to visit Iran as well in the near future.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Srinagar (Worldwide)

Srinagar, Nov 20 : There are two distinct outfits, each of which identifies itself by the name Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). Amanullah Khan heads the first while Yasin Malik, who parted ways with Amanullah Khan and formed another JKLF, heads the other. In May 1994, Yasin Malik who was released from jail (after his arrest in August 1990) declared that his faction would renounce violence as a tool to achieve the goal of 'independence'. In March 1996, the last surviving members of the Amanullah faction who were based in J&K under the leadership of Shabbir Siddiqui were killed in two encounters in Hazrztbal area.

Both the Fronts trace their origin to the Jammu and Kashmir National Liberation Front (JKNLF). The JKNLF was an offshoot of the Plebiscite Front, a forum allegedly launched at the behest of the late Sheikh Abdullah, who was Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the National Conference, at a time when he was at loggerheads with India's Union Government. After the Sheikh-Indira Accord was signed, militant, pro-independence elements within the Plebiscite Front walked out to continue with the movement to secede from India.

The JKLF was set up in the United Kingdom, in May 1977, by one of the co-founders of the JKNLF, Amanullah Khan, after most of his JKNLF colleagues were either killed or captured by Indian security forces. The outfit is reportedly supported by expatriates of the Mirpur community that belongs to Azad Jammu and Kashmir  (AJK). Another JKLF, a splinter group headed by Yasin Malik, was founded in September 1995, after Malik split from Khan over differences on the strategy to be pursued to achieve perceived goals.

While both the JKLFs share a common goal, self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the Yasin Malik faction has renounced the use of violence to attain this goal. It lays emphasis on adopting non-violent means and mobilising public opinion in India and Pakistan in favour of its objectives. It is a constituent of the All Party Huriyat Conference.

Amanullah Khan's JKLF promotes itself as an outfit conducting the struggle on three fronts –– political, which implies mobilisation of public opinion; diplomatic, which implies lobbying with third countries; and armed struggle against Indian security forces in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K).

In the Seventies and early Eighties, the JKLF operated mostly from London and AJK, with Amanullah Khan and Hashim Qureshi directing from London unit and Farooq Haider and Mohammed Muzzafar holding fort in AJK. Their activities were, in large measure, confined to propagating the cause of a plebiscite in J&K and mobilising international support for this objective.

Even before the inception of JKLF, its leaders under various other banners had indulged in terrorist activities. One such instance was the hijacking of an Indian Airlines aircraft in 1971; Altaf and Hashim Qureshi, two prominent leaders, hijacked the plane. LATE Maqbul Butt, one of the co-founders of the outfit and who had escaped from an Indian jail in December 1968, was reportedly involved in planning the hijacking.

Later, in 1976, Butt returned to India, only to be arrested the same year. In 1980, he was sentenced to death for killing a police officer in 1968. The sentence was, however, kept in abeyance. On February 3, 1984, as the JKLF puts it, "some JKLF enthusiastic activists who without approval, and even knowledge of their leadership, kidnapped Indian Deputy High Commission in Birmingham", Ravindra Mahtre, and demanded Butt's release. The demand was turned down and Mahtre was killed on February 6. The death sentence against Butt was revived and implemented on February 11. The abductors of Mahtre, who were JKLF members had floated the Kashmir Liberation Army to carry out the act.

A British court acquitted Amanullah Khan in the Mahtre killing case, but the government served a deportation notice on him. Khan reached Pakistan and assumed leadership of the JKLF. Reportedly, he had established contacts with Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) for building a network of training camps in Pakistan, encouraging youth from J&K to cross the Line of Control (LoC) and receive training.

After elections were held to the State Legislature in 1987, which were allegedly rigged by National Conference and supported by some Indian agencies , several youth crossed the LoC and received arms training. Simultaneously, the JKLF established its network in Srinagar and, in 1988, initiated the present phase of armed insurgency in the State with two bomb blasts in the capital city of Srinagar.

All through its history the JKLF has demanded conducting a plebiscite in J&K, but has made no effort to conceal its preference for an independent, sovereign State. This latter position is in direct conflict with Pakistan's contention, that Kashmir in its entirety belongs to it, made apparent by a consistent refusal for a third option in the plebiscite that has been demanded (the other options are: accession to either India or Pakistan). Another cause of friction between the JKLF and its mentors is the status of Gilghit-Baltistan. While JKLF maintains that this region is a part of J&K, Pakistan's hold that this region is separate from the State and its accession to Pakistan is final and irrevocable.

These differences never faded but came to the fore at various points of time. As a result, Pakistan was, on occasion, hostile towards the JKLF. For instance, when Maqbool Butt escaped from an Indian jail in 1968 and crossed over to Pakistan, he was jailed for a few months.

Analysts hold that, despite these, the ISI had to depend upon the JKLF in the initial stages of the insurgency as it lacked its own network in J&K. Once the JKLF began bringing in people for training, the ISI gradually weaned away a considerable section of them from the JKLF. Using money and weapon supplies as baits, the ISI bought the loyalty of several militants. By 1991, with ISI's help the pro-Pakistan Hizb-ul-Mujahideen gained greater terror potential as compared to the JKLF. Moreover, the formation of  TJI,Jehad Force, AL-Jehad, Janbaz Force, AL-Fatha, Jamiat, Harkat-ul-Ansar, Lashkar-e-Toiba and numerous other smaller outfits contributed to the marginalisation of JKLF. Besides this, JKLF has been directly targeted by the ISI and the outfits that were controlled by it with armed attacks. For instance, the ISI attempted to forcibly shut down a JKLF training camp in Kotli district, AJK, on February 11 and 12, 1998. In another incident, Hizb militants killed two JKLF cadres on July 13, 1997, in Muzaffarabad, the capital of AJK..

Internal factors, too, contributed to the decline of the JKLF as a militant outfit. As mentioned earlier, Yasin Malik, who was then heading the outfit in J&K, walked out in 1995. His successor, Shabbir Siddiqui and 37 remaining members of the Amanullah Khan faction were killed in two incidents in Hazratbal, in March 1996; 11 had been killed on March 24 and the other 26, including Shabbir Siddiqui, on March 29. After this, the JKLF failed to resurrect itself as a militant  outfit. Its presence is restricted to the participation of Yasin Malik's faction in the APHC.

The AJK unit of the JKLF under Amanullah Khan's leadership has conducted three marches with a view to crossing across the LoC into India. Fearing international repercussions, Pakistan used force to halt these marches and, in the process, killed several JKLF members and supporters. The first two attempts to cross the LoC were made in 1992, the first on February 12, and the second on October 24. Seven persons were killed in the first instance and one in the second attempt to cross the LoC, when Pakistani security forces opened fire on the marchers. The third attempt was made on October 5, 199. This time round, there were no casualties when the group was stopped.(Writer-South Asia)

JKPL paid homage to Shaheed-e-Azeemat, Sheikh Abdul Aziz

Srinagar, August 9: An extra ordinary meeting of Jammu Kashmir Peoples League-JKPL  was held today at its central office Rajbagh Srinagar chaired by Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and attended by Senior Peoples League Leaders, which include, Ghulam Qadir Rah Imtiyaz Ahmad Reshi, Shakeel-ul Rehman, Afaaq Ahmnad and Shabir Ahmad. In the meeting rich tributes were paid to the Shaheed-e-Azeemat, Sheikh Abdul Aziz who has scarified his life for the cause of nation. Sheikh Aziz was ascribed to be amongst the frontline Pro-freedom leaders and was one of the Executive Member of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) - which represents the aspiration of Kashmiris politically, diplomatically and socially.

Jammu Kashmir Peoples League said that the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs would not be allowed to go waste and their mission would be taken to its logical conclusion. While speaking in the meeting senior Hurriyat Leader and Acting Chairman Jammu Kashmir Peoples League, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza said that Kashmiri martyrs centre-staged Kashmir dispute at the international level. He reiterated the pledge to continue the liberation struggle, despite all odds.

Mukhtar Waza reiterated that mission of martyrs Shaheed.e.Azeemat, Sheikh Abdul Aziz will be taken to its logical conclusion despite all odds. He said that the martyred leader remained dedicated to his mission till the day of his martyrdom.

Waza said that “Right from 1947, India has been trying to suppress the voice of Kashmiris by force. But neither they succeeded in the past, nor they would in future,” Mukhtar Waza pointed out that the international human rights organization had been calling upon India from time to time to stop rights abuses in Kashmir but these pleas had been falling on deaf ears.

Waza has appealed to the international community particularly the United Nations and the Organizations of Islamic Conference to take cognizance of the atrocities being committed by Indian troops against innocent people of Kashmir.
