Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat Failed to Represent Aspirations of Kashmiris: Sheikh Yaqoob

Islamabad: Announcing its unconditional support to Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Jammu Kashmir Peoples League Chairman, Sheikh Mohd Yaqoob Thursday said that Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat Conference has failed to represent the aspirations of oppressed Kashmiri people.

“Jammu Kashmir Peoples League which held deliberations over the prevailing political scenario of Kashmir in past several weeks has now decided to support veteran Pro-Freedom leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s forum for its pro-people and pro-freedom policies,” Sheikh Yaqoob said in an issued statement.

He said that during the course of deliberations it was found that only Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s forum is respecting and following the 1993 Hurriyat constitution for the peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute.

“Distressed with the way Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat forum worked in past few years and sidelined the constitution, we earlier quitted the forum and now the party has decided to support Hurriyat (G),” he said, adding it is the reason that dozens of constituents from last three years have quit the group.
Sheikh Yaqoob said that all those persons who still sneak into the cozy corridors of Mirwaiz-Group are “cheaters” and will be given no space in the party fold.

“One man claiming to be representatives of JKPL is actually among those who have sold the sacrifices and mission of martyrs and are on the parole of Indian intelligence agencies,” he said.

Taking a dig on Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat Conference, Yaqoob said that the forum miserably failed in representing the aspirations of oppressed Kashmiris.

“Kashmiris have sacrificed their precious lives for the freedom struggle and they will not allow any body to enter into secret deals to sell the sacrifices of martyrs for comforts and power,” he said.

He said that Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat conference should come clear on the martyrdom of Sheikh Abdul Aziz and should tell the nation why they failed to reveal the identity of those involved in his martyrdom.

“Leaders in Mirwaiz Hurriyat conference know the people who were actively involved in the conspiracy which was hatched in New Delhi against the Shaheed-e-Azeemat Sheikh Abdul Aziz and under which he was martyred. We want to know what happened to internal probe which was assured and why it failed to reveal identity of involved persons who claim to be representatives of Kashmiris,” Sheikh Yaqoob said.

Sheikh Yaqoob asked Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to reveal the truth before the oppressed Kashmiri nation.

He said that after the martyrdom of Sheikh Abdul Aziz, a worker of Peoples league was tasked to crush the party and party’s mission. He said that worker later under the patronage of Indian intelligence and few Hurriyat leaders hijacked the party and divided the party into number of groups.

“This man who is on intelligence parole asked our party men to refrain from carrying out political activities which forced them to join other pro-freedom groups,” he said, however added now all the party leaders, activists, colleagues and friends of Sheikh Abdul Aziz have joined hands to defeat Indian intelligence and their collaborators.

Sheikh Yaqoob said that the fresh structure of the party will be announced very soon and urged activists to strength the party at gross root level.

Kiwi planting material now available in India

Kiwi Garden in Kashmir
World'd most expensive fruit Kiwi or Chinese gooseberry (Actinidia deliciosa) is grown widely in

Kiwi is mostly grown in the mid hills of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Kerala. Having been very newly introduced in the country estimates of area and production have not yet become available. he fruit has high nutritive and medicinal value. It is a rich source of vitamin B & C and minerals like phosphorus, potassium & calcium.

Fruits are consumed fresh or combined with other fruits in salads and deserts. It is also used for preparation of squash and wine. Kiwi can be grown in areas experiencing 700-800 chilling hours (no. of hours during which temperature remains at or below 70 C during the winter season).

The plant can be grown at 800-1500 m. above m.s.l. A rainfall of about 150 cm. /year is sufficient. The rainfall should be well distributed during the growing period. The plant does not withstand strong winds and frost during the growing period because of its vigorous vegetative growth, large leaves and viny habit. In summer, high temperature (> 350 C) and low humidity may cause scorching of leaves. Sun scald and heat stress are the main problems in its cultivation in lower areas. Colonel M N Rai In, killed in Jammu and Kashmir

Colonel M N Rai
Indian Army on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to Colonel M N Rai, who died fighting militants in

By: Mohsin Bhat (http://writerasia.blogspot.in)
"Col Rai always led from the front in multiple operations that he carried out in 2014 and also in 2015. He combined bravery with compassion and people in Tral knew him very well for his several initiatives," General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps Lt Gen Subrata Saha told media persons after the wreath laying ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar.

Army on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to Colonel M N Rai, who died fighting militants in Jammu and Kashmir, recalling his efforts to reach out to youths in the militancy-hit region and said such sacrifice only strengthens its resolve to fight elements inimical to peace.

Jammu and Kashmir, recalling his efforts to reach out to youths in the militancy-hit region and said such sacrifice only strengthens its resolve to fight elements inimical to peace.

"The supreme sacrifice of the brave men only strengthens our resolve to fight all elements inimical to security of Kashmir," he said as friends and colleagues recalled the contribution of Rai, one of the senior-most officers to be killed in last one year.
Rai, 39, commanding officer of 42 Rashtriya Rifles, and head constable Sanjeev Kumar Singh Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police were killed during the encounter in Tral in Pulawama district yesterday, in which two militants were also gunned down.
Saha said once the house where the militants were hiding was cordoned off, the father and brother of one of the terrorists approached Rai claiming that the ultra wanted to surrender. But even as Rai gave them an opportunity to do so, the militants came out of the house firing indiscriminately leading to the gunbattle.
The officer's swift actions prevented many civilian casualties during the operation, Saha said and noted that Rai had taken "a number of initiatives for the positive engagement of youth like organising cricket and football tournaments".
"Clearly under his leadership, we could say that the narrative in Tral was changing. He earned the admiration of all the administration for his meticulous planning and we have seen how Tral turned out to vote," Lt Gen Saha said.
Rai was conferred the Yudh Seva medal on the eve of Republic Day for outstanding contribution in planning and conduct of operations including a gun battle with militants in south Kashmir last year.
Saha said the security in the Kashmir Valley was being ensured with a "colossal effort" by the army and added it was a collective responsibility of all the concerned agencies to keep the local youth away from militancy.
To another question about casualties among high-ranked officers of the army during the anti-militancy encounters, Lt Gen Saha said it was because Indian army officers always led from the front.
"Clearly because traditionally and as per our ethos, Indian army officers always led from the front and it is a matter of pride for us that we have officers of such calibre and such commitment who, even at the rank of the commanding officer, very senior rank, chose to fight from the front with their men at all times," he said.
Saha also said the army would always give an opportunity to the militants to surrender wherever such a situation comes up.
"We have been giving this opportunity wherever the parents or relations do come up to try and say that they would like to ask their son or relation to surrender. So in all fairness, we try to give them this opportunity and I would not try to add any further motives to that," he said.
Praising Rai, Saha said, "he was always in the frontline, leading his men to deliver exceedingly well. Even in the operation yesterday, soon after the cordon was established, the commanding officer was in-charge right in the front when he was approached by the father of one of the slain terrorist that his son would like to surrender.
"He asked him to go ahead and get him to surrender. At the same time, the terrorist's brother also approached and under these circumstances, both militants rushed out of the house that they were hiding in and fired rampantly," he said.
The army commander said it was to the credit of the very quick response and very quick thinking of Col Rai that he retaliated immediately and in a very brief and intense gunbattle, the two militants were killed.
"If it were not for his quick response, quite clearly, there could have been causalities on the civilians who were there in the vicinity along with his brother and others.
"So, it is the very swift response of Col Rai and the men under his command, that the terrorists -- one of them a district commander and the other one quite a young recruit -- both were eliminated," he said.
He said pro-active actions are being taken by the army to ensure that the security conditions remain stable and to ensure that the mandate which has been given by the people comes in a situation of high security stability.
"I have always maintained the way to keep the local youth away from militancy is to have them proactively engaged, to have them positively engaged.
"You are perhaps aware of the number of initiatives taken, especially sports activities, to keep them positively and proactively engaged but really it is a collective responsibility and every agency has to come together to be sure that the youth do not stray into the ranks of militancy," he said.
Saha said the families of both Col Rai and head constable Singh "were uppermost our prayers today. We stand by them in this hour of grief and all times to come."
Col Rai's body is being flown to Delhi and it will be kept at the Delhi cantonment crematorium.

The ginkgo tree is a true survivor or " living fossil" from the Jurassic period. It saw the dinosaurs come and go and is the only living tree to survive the atomic blast at Hiroshima. It can thrive for 1000 years on polluted land while reducing taxins. Besides being a highly researched medicinal wonder, they provide disease-free ornamental shade tree or tenacious forests. BJP firm on its 'core' issues: Dr Jitendra

NEW DELHI, December 17: With just one day left for the election campaign to end in Jammu & Kashmir, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Dr Jitendra Singh today brushed aside all the misgivings and categorically stated that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is firm on its ''core'' ideological issues and has neither given up nor deviated from any of them.

Dr Jitendra Singh said,Jammu & Kashmir is the ideological base of BJP and the erstwhile Bharatiya Jan Sangh and observed , it was from here that our "founding founder" Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee had launched his mission for total integration of the State with the Indian Union and had also sacrificed his life in a Kashmir prison. We owe it to the legacy of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and the sacrifices of hundreds of Praja Parishad activists who devoted their lives for the cause of Jammu & Kashmir and we, the present generation of BJP "Karyakartas", have inherited the responsibility of living up to the ideals of these great patriots, he added.

Referring to constant regional discrimination and injustice meted out to the people of Jammu, Dr Jitendra Singh said, this has unfortunately led to a defeatist and slavish mentality in the region which has adversely affected the growth and progress of our youth. BJP is committed to undo the step-motherly approach towards Jammu by successive State governments and ensure that the people of the region get equal opportunities in education and employment and at the same time, do not suffer from the psychological complex of being treated as second-class citizens in their own State,he added.

While BJP stands for equitable development of all regions regardless of community, caste or creed, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the party will, at the same time, ensure that no section of society in any of the three regions of the State has to be subservient to the ruling hierarchy from another region.

Dr Jitendra Singh said, while “justice to all and appeasement to none” will be our core guiding principle, we will at the same time ensure that the State of Jammu & Kashmir is not deprived of the enormous benefits of progress and growth available to other States of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has special concern for the development of Jammu & Kashmir and in order to get the maximum benefit of the Central funds and assistance available to us, it is essential to have a State government which is accountable to each and every penny provided by the Centre and is, at the same time, capable of emulating the model of governance established by Narendra Modi.

When asked why BJP had not declared its chief ministerial candidate like other parties ,Dr Jitendra Singh sarcastically quipped "The answer is simple. In parties like National Conference,PDP or Congress, chief ministers are born in homes of certain "dynasties" while in BJP chief ministers grow up from the cadre and anybody can become a chief minister based on calibre and acceptability".

Dr. Jitendra Singh said the Assembly results on 23rd will prove that BJP has an important role to play in the future dispensation in the State. BJP in J&K is no longer going to be a party of mere protests or Dharnas but it shall be a party with an essential role in decision making,he added.

Azaadi Sankalp Divas

Sheikh Abdul Aziz
Jalandhar, August 11: To commemorate organization's 36th foundation day, the Dal Khalsa, a Sikh

political party, is holding a Conference on August 13 at Jalandhar on the subject of Azaadi-the only way.

Party head H S Dhami in a statement said Muslims got Pakistan on August 14th and Hindus got India on 15th while Sikhs missed the bus. He said since then, Sikhs have been striving for their own Homeland.

Reiterating their commitment to the cause of Sikh independence, the organization has decided to observe August 13 as “Azaadi Sankalp Divas'.

He said all promises made to Sikhs by Indian leadership before and after 15th August 1947 has not been honoured. Since transfer of power in 1947, Indian leadership has cheated and deceived the Sikhs.

In a separate statement, the Sikh Nationalist party paid tributes to Sheikh Abdul Aziz on his 6th martyrdom day and fully supported the right to self-determination for Kashmiri people.

Party president eulogized  APHC leader Sheikh Aziz and others for attaining martyrdom for the Kashmir cause.  “The determination and steadfastness of Kashmiris would never allow the sacrifices of martyrs go vain,” he added.

Dal Khalsa leader said Sheikh Aziz was a friend of Sikhs and supporter of Sikh cause for freedom. He was member of the Coordination Committee formed by ethnic and religious minorities striving for their respective right to self determination in Delhi on March 23, 2008.

“Aspirations of Kashmiris should be respected and they should be given free and fair opportunity to express their desire through the universally accepted right to self-determination,” the statement added.

11th August,2008 : Sacrifice makes one supreme.” Sheikh Aziz

By S. Ashraf

“Sincerely supreme sacrifice makes one supreme.”  Sheikh Aziz (Father of Jehad-e-Kashmir)  was a supreme. His sacrifice led to a mass uprising which attracted global attention.

In a A symbolic march by Kashmirs to march towards north (Muzaffarabad) when they are harmed in the south (Hindu Jammu) has caused more lives for Kashmiris. It is indeed a shame for human civilization that India continues to be engaged in genocide of Kashmiris. As part of Indian strategy to kill Kashmiris in a sustained manner under different guises, some more Kashmiri Muslims were murdered by India in the background of the Hindus fascist fight for Sri Amarnath illegal land deal. After direct fire on Muzaffarabad marchers, at least eight persons, including a most senior Hurriyat freedom fighting leader of Jammu and Kashmir, Shaikh Abdul Aziz ( Father of Jehad-e-Kashmir ), were killed as they were marching towards the Line of Control in Baramulla district leader and a boy were killed by Indian security forces in Srinagar district on August 15 a couple of days ahead of Indian independence day.

Following the killing of six protestors including most senior Sheikh Abdul Aziz, the authorities imposed curfew in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir. However, the freedom fighters have reiterated their resolve to continue their mach, come what may. Economic terrorism unleashed by Hindus in Jammu region by blocking the movement of goods between Jammu and Kashmir have caused serious economic problems and this economic terrorism is resented by Kashmirs who have suffered badly and decided to mach to Muzaffarabad to show their anger. Economic terrorism is been used by USA and the Western powers against third world nations, now especially Iran, to cripple their economies. India has thought out similar strategy to make Kashmiris to bend completely and bow down to Indian military dictates. Economic blockade is a crude manifestation of the decades_ old policy of making Kashmir economy fatally dependent on others. Notwithstanding arrests by police in different parts of Kashmir,

Kashmiris in thirty hundred thousands marched towards North Kashmir to participate in the Muzaffarabad March to protest against the economic blockade of the Valley. In North Kashmir, the march to Muzaffarabad commenced from Sopore Fruit Mandi after people defied restrictions. Sopore Fruit Mandi was besieged early morning by police and CRPF men and five trade union leaders were detained and tyres of decorated fruit laden trucks were deflated by the troopers. After arrest of leaders, announcements were made through Public Address System (PAS) asking people to join the Muzaffarabad March. Thousands of people again joined march with women lined up on roadside yelling pro freedom and pro_Pakistan slogans. They were seen serving water and food packets to the protestors and praying for their safety. After the protestors reached Baramulla, the processionists boarded buses, trucks, scooters to move towards Muzaffarabad. Amidst pro−freedom, pro−Pakistan and anti−India slogans, the protestors, who were led by Huriyat leaders, Sheikh Abdul Aziz and Shabir Ahmad Shah reached chahal, Uri, some 20 kms from Uri. They could not move ahead as the army had dug up trenches to prevent people and vehicles from moving ahead. When the protestors tried to march ahead, they were fired on by the troopers, causing injuring to at least 20 persons including Sheikh Abdul Aziz. Aziz received bullet injury in his abdomen and was rushed to nearby hospital, where from he was referred to SMHS hospital, where he succumbed. Meanwhile, thousands of people were on streets till late night at Sangrama, Delina, Sheeri, Hyderbugh, Zumgum, and Pattan. They were waiting for the sunrise to recommence their _Muzaffarabad March_. There have been thousands of known and unknown Kashmiri martyrs who have laid down their sacred lives in their freedom struggle, much more than what the India had lost dung their independence fight under British rule. Sheikh Abdul Aziz was a pro−Pakistan Kashmiri leaders fighting for the cause of gaining sovereignty back from occupying India. Muzaffarabad is legally a part of Kashmir, now the capital of Azad Kashmir with an independent premier administrated by Pakistan and which would be a part of new Kashmir when it becomes free from Indian military occupation.

Kashmiris have been at the receiving end since their nation was annexed by it neighbor India and hardships are nothing new to them either. Also, now this is not something new to the now fragile economy of Kashmir that it has been subjected to, over the last six decades. The backdrop in which the economy of Kashmir traveled along the time path included a focus on making Kashmir prone to dependency cult, intentionally pursued by New Delhi; priority setting as per the whims of policy planners at New Delhi. The horticulture, floriculture and other commodity sectors have suffered losses that have varied ramifications and most of the growers cannot possibly sustain these losses. These commodities are flooding the already saturated and impoverished local market of Kashmir. The acute hardships faced by people in valley by scarcity of essential commodities, life saving drugs and medicine, even kids_ items, by the economic blockade does call for a new thinking based on self reliance. Of course, now it looks the popular uprising is not going to end until the Kashmirs obtain freedom and independence from India. First of economic terrorism must end followed by state military terrorism. It is noteworthy that in this regard JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yaseen Malik went on a hunger strike unto death but fortunately freedom fighting leaders like Geelani persuaded him to end his long hunger strike. Geelani also reminded him saying, _We differ with the idea of fast unto death as it is not an Islamic way and that we must pray to the almighty for the continuity and eternity of the unity we have showed this time_. Besides, no one will care in India even if entire Muslim community in Kashmir goes on hunger strike until death. India promotes genocide in Kashmir, after all and death of Kashmiris and other Muslims in any manner is welcome to New Delhi. But it is time the Governor of Jammu Kashmir NN Vohra considers recommending to New Delhi to grant independence to Kashmir so that the Kashmiris do not have to stave and die like this and let them live with honor and resources. Any further day in decision−making in favor of Kashmiris could be disastrous for both Kashmiris and India. The Kashmirs do have the efficient leadership, resources and the capacity to govern their own nation in a peaceful manner.

Credit for cross-LoC pact goes to Sheikh Abdul AZIZ

Sheikh Aziz

Bill Clinton: ‘I nearly got’ Osama bin Laden

Washington (CNN) - Bill Clinton, just hours before planes crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, reportedly told an audience in Australia that he almost killed Osama bin Laden during his presidency.

Speaking to a group of businessmen in Australia on September 10, 2001, according to audio aired by SkyNews Australia on Wednesday, Clinton said that he "nearly got" the al Qaeda leader but didn't go through with a missile attack because of the collateral damage that would have come from it.

"He [Osama bin Laden] is a very smart guy, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about him – and I nearly got him once," Clinton said. "I nearly got him. And I could have killed him, but I would have to destroy a little town called Kandahar in Afghanistan and kill 300 innocent women and children, and then I would have been no better than him. And so I didn’t do it.”

The tragic loss of Dr. Sheikh Jalal is significant for the world in a number of complex ways. There are some deeply important and hidden games being played out behind the scenes with a very great deal at stake. (Writer-South Asia)

The tape, which was provided to SkyNews by Michael Kroger, a former head of the Liberal Party of Australia, aired on the networks show "Paul Murray Live."

According to Kroger, who appears on the show, the Clinton remarks came from a meeting the former president had with 30 businessmen and women at Crown Casino Complex in Melbourne.

"The event was taped with his knowledge," Kroger says on the show. "The tape has never been played. … Bill Clinton was answering a question from a member of the audience about terrorism, international terrorism and he made some extraordinary remarks which had hitherto remained in my vault."

A number of books and the 9/11 Commission Report have acknowledged that the Clinton administration considered a December 1998 strike on bin Laden but scrapped the plan over possible collateral damage.

Bin Laden would infamously go on to be the mastermind behind the September 11 attacks that killed 2,977 people. After going into hiding for years, bin Laden was killed on May 2, 2011 by U.S. Special Forces during an early morning raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Name Sgr-Muzaffarabad road as Shahrah-e-Aziz: 11th August Foundation

Srinagar : Various political parties cutting across ideological lines have hailed the commencement of cross LoC trade between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, describing it a welcome development.

The truck service for trade across the LoC on the Srinagar-Muzzafarabad road was started on Tuesday.Welcoming the opening of trade route, the  11th August Foundation stressed the need for taking other confidence building measures that would pave way for final settlement of Kashmir issue.

APHC, clarified that neither peace could be restored in the subcontinent nor there would be any progress in the trade unless and until meaningful and result-oriented steps were taken to resolve Kashmir issue.

“Hurriyat hopes that Pakistan will take this development as confidence building measure and there is a need for taking several other confidence building measures that will pave way for final resolution of Kashmir issue,” said a spokesman of the Hurriyat in a statement today.

Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) acting chairman Moulana Muhamamd Abdullah Tari, while hailing the restoration of trade, described it a welcome step towards resolving 60 year old Kashmir dispute.

11th August Foundation  demanded that the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road should be named as Shahrah-e-Aziz ( Aziz Highway) as an honour to and acknowledgement of the sacrifices of Shaheed Sheikh Abdul Aziz, noted pro-movement leader who was martyred in police firing on August 11, while leading a peaceful protest demonstration demanding opening of cross LoC trade at Chahal in Uri.

Expressing happiness over the commencement of trade, the National Conference general secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad said,”It has lent this day, October 21, a historical significance.” He said it would have a positive impact on the economy of the people on both sides and would pave way for resolution of political issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr. Karan Singh equates Kashmir with Hong Kong ‘Asks India not to treat J&K at par with States’

Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member, Dr Karan Singh Thursday said that he has been distressed by fierce controversy that has broken out with regard to Article 370, flowing from an avoidable statement by the MoS in PMO’s office.

He said that the whole question is extremely sensitive and must be handled coolly and in a mature fashion. The sort of statements issued from both sides will only create further turmoil and tension in Jammu and Kashmir.

Singh told Srinagar based news gathering agency CNS that, “let it be recalled that my father Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession in October 1947 under unusual circumstances when a full scale war was raging due to the Pakistani based tribal invasion. It is true that the Instrument was the same as the document signed by all the other provincial states. However, whereas the other states later signed merger agreements, the relationship of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country was governed by a special set of circumstances, and hence given a special position. The Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir which I signed into law in 1957, is still in force,” former Sadr-i-Riyasat Dr Karan Singh said.

ARTICLE 370 IS JUGULAR VEIN BETWEEN KASHMIR & INDIA. It is not good for the integrity of the country to speak about revisiting it.complacency ,conceit,or overconfident machoism can derail so precious & rare PEACE wagon.Let no words be spoken even on this inflammable issue. (Sheikh GULZAAR)

He said that, “certainly Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, but that does not necessarily mean that it has to be treated exactly on par with other states. Hong Kong is an integral part of China but has been given a special dispensation. There are in fact numerous examples around the world in which due to special circumstances, certain areas or regions have been given a special dispensation. Though all talk of secession is totally unacceptable and uncalled for, the steam-roller approach is also not appropriate,” Singh said.

He according to CNS further said 50 percent of the area of Jammu and Kashmir is under Pakistan control out of which Pakistan has leased a considerable portion of this land to China. He appealed to all concerned to kindly tone down the rhetoric and not let the Minister’s statement plunge the new government almost immediately into a complex and difficult situation.

“The whole question of Jammu and Kashmir has to be looked at in an integral fashion, including the international dimension, the constitutional position, the legal aspects as well as the political aspect,” he said. (CNS)

Availability of Goji Berry

Goji berries have made waves in the import and export markets of India, but they’re not cultivated commercially on the country’s soils. However, there’s ample potential, given the ease of growing them: Several edible species in the Lycium thrive in a range of conditions—they grow alongside desert shrubs and snow-covered pine. Indeed, goji berries love hot summers and mildly cool nights; conditions found in many parts of India. Once established, the fruits are drought tolerant and the plants withstand frost with ease. Furthermore, goji berries begin fruiting within a year of planting.

Fresh berries are nearly impossible to procure in India, but it’s possible to find dried goji berries in niche specialty markets catering to expats and health food junkies. Anecdotally, the dried berries tend to be more expensive in India than in the US. Though shipping costs are lower in India due to its geographical closeness to China, less competition and lower demand keep prices high.

Sources in the police told Kashmir daily handout that a Maruti car in which suspected militants were travelling in Awantipora was recovered from Sangam area on Saturday night. The cops, who had prior information about the militants’ movement, had opened warning shots to halt the car.
