New Delhi helps Geelani to uproot NC in J&K Geelani active supporters of PDP

mustafa-slide-14-11-2012Srinagar, Oct 30, CNS: National Conference legislator and former Minister, Dr Shiekh Mustafa KamalWednesday accused New Delhi for harbouring Syed Ali Geelani to weaken NC in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Not only Pakistan but New Delhi is also providing monetary assistance to Geelani and other like-minded separatist leaders to uproot National Conference form the political map of the State,” Kamal told Srinagar based news agency CNS adding that people have lost faith in Geelani.
Kamal alleged that Geelani was released to persuade people especially the supporters of Jamat-e-Islami to caste vote in favour of Peoples Democratic Party candidates in forthcoming Parliament and Assembly Elections.
“Geelani and Company will now visit NC bastions to enforce election boycott and would urge upon Jamat-e-Islami supporters and leaders to help PDP during elections,” he said.
He said that PDP and Jamat-e-Islami are hand in glove while Geelani is playing a key role in strengthening their bond. “They should know that they can’t uproot NC as it is the only party in Jammu and Kashmir which has a strong base. Geelani, Jamat-e-Islami or PDP will never succeed in their designs.
National Conference Additional General Secretary lashed out at Hurriyat leaders and said that they are playing negative politics to digest the funds which they receive both from India and Pakistan.
“What these Hurriyat leaders could do for people when they are themselves scattered and disintegrated. If their agenda is one, then why they have opened their shops separately. The fact is that they fill up their coffers and befool fool,” Kamal said adding people of Kashmir should try to find out the reasons why these separatist leaders are not ready to share the same dais.
Kamal reiterated that Geelani was not arrested by the Government but sometime authorities imposed restrictions on his movement to avoid untoward incidents. (CNS)

Cross LOC Trade in Kashmir

10 kg cocaine recovered from cross LOC trade truck

While claiming that the Rs. 10 crore worth cocaine consignment, seized from a truck across the LoC Hizbul Mujahideen, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested an alleged operative of the militant outfit from the capital city on Friday. in Baramulla district, had been smuggled in for

The North Kashmir Deputy Inspector General of Police J.P. Singh confirmed the Baramulla Police operation and told The Hindu that one Shehzad was picked up from Fruit Mandi area of Srinagar. “Driver of the seized truck Abdul Ahad of Mawar, Handwara, revealed during sustained questioning that the cocaine consignment was for Hizbul Mujahideen’s Shehzad. We got him to Srinagar to call Shehzad to Parimpora. As soon as Shehzad reached the given spot, we took him into custody”, DIG Singh said.

Mr. Singh claimed that Shehzad was an “overground militant operative closely linked to Hizbul Mujahideen’s top brass in Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir”. “He admitted to being the importer of the cocaine consignment but maintained during the preliminary questioning that the contraband was supposed to be delivered to another operative whose particulars would be communicated by the organisation from Pakistan”, Mr. Singh said.

Case FIR number 47 under section 6 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered at Police Station Sheri in Baramulla district. Shehzad’s antecedents and background could not be verified immediately from independent sources.

Nine packets of cocaine, each weighing one kilo and valued at Rs. 10 crore in international drug markets, had been seized from a cross-LoC trade truck earlier on Friday. Entire fleet of the trucks that had gone across the LoC to the Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir’s Trade Facilitation Centre at Chakoti to deliver goods on Thursday, was intercepted and thoroughly checked at a barricade on Baramulla-Uri Road on Friday.

The DIG said police had received information about the possibility of smuggling of drugs and arms through three particular trucks. He said that the contraband was seized from a truck bearing registration number JK02F-0127. It had been concealed in a tyre in the tool box of the vehicle that had carried a load of bananas from Srinagar to Chakoti.

The barter trade of over two dozen listed items operates for four days a week through Uri in Baramulla district of Kashmir valley and Chakan-Da-Bagh in Poonch district of Jammu. As a significant feature of the confidence building measures between India and Pakistan, the cross-LoC trade has been in operation since October 21, 2008. Cross-LoC travel had been resumed after 57 years in April 2005.

While as the PoK government has set up the TFC at Chakoti for delivery of the goods imported from Srinagar, the J&K government has a similar facility at Salambad, short of the Aman Sethu bridge, the zero-line on LoC in Uri. Goods imported from Muzaffarabad are delivered there for trans-shipment to Srinagar and Baramulla.

Even as some prohibited items, including rounds of ammunition and Pakistani SIM cards have been recovered from some vehicles and passengers in Jammu, it is for the first time in the last five years of the cross-LoC trade that a sizable quantity of cocaine has been allegedly smuggled in and seized.

Dr Sheikh Jalal

Dr Sheikh Jalal
Dr Sheikh Jalal, a leading cardiologist of South asia, was seriously injured in a militant ambush that left his two police guards dead.

A senior police officer said militants fired at the vehicle of Dr Jalal near Shaheed-e-Azemat Road, Namblabal Pampore in south Kashmir Pulwama district on Thursday afternoon.

“Dr Jalal was seriously injured in the militant attack and has been shifted to hospital for treatment while his two police guards were killed on the spot,” the officer said.

Dr Sheikh Jalal an eminent cardiologist had headed the cardiology department of the states only tertiary medical facility, Soura medical institute for a long time and had been its director for some time.

After his retirement Dr Jalal has been doing private practice in capital Srinagar.

He belonged to the south Kashmir Pulwama district but is presently living in capital Srinagar. He had been provided security by the government.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Police, assisted by security forces, have cordoned off the area and a hunt has been launched to nab the assailants, police said.

The attack comes a day after a top Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed in a grenade explosion at Batmaloo in central Srinagar while he was being shifted to Baramulla district jail in a police vehicle.

Police blamed militants for the attack, but Hizbul Mujahideen accused the cops of stage managing the attack to eliminate Shakeel Ahmad Kasana, who was arrested last year.

Hizbul spokesman Baliguddin told a local news gathering agency that the outfit will carry out attacks to avenge Kasana's death.
